There’s a certain kind of story that feels familiar in the best way — no grand plan, no big moment, just a steady build rooted in doing something well and sticking with it. That’s what led Charly Parks and Trevor Plough to start True Love Barbershop.
Before True Love Barbershop was a place, it was just a chair, some clippers, and a group of friends.
“I started cutting my friends’ hair. It was never really a plan, it just happened. People liked what I was doing so I kept going.”
That momentum carried him across West LA, putting in hours at different shops, learning the craft the right way — through repetition, community, and showing up.
“I put in my time working at shops all over West LA, learned a lot along the way, and eventually me and Trevor decided to stop waiting and just open our own spot. That was that.”
No overthinking. No perfect timing. Just a decision to build something of their own.
The name True Love came the same way — honest, a little tongue-in-cheek, and rooted in something real.
“People would always make fun of me and Trevor for being ‘in love’ with each other. It’s a name that feels warm and welcoming — which is exactly what we wanted the shop to be.”
That feeling carries through everything. From the name to the space itself, even the location.
“It just felt right when we found it. Couldn’t really explain it beyond that.”
And that’s kind of the point. Not everything needs over-explaining when it’s built on instinct and intention.
Step inside True Love Barbershop and you get it immediately. There’s no edge, no pressure — just a place to land.
“Comfortable. Like this is their place too. We want people to walk in and just relax — no weirdness, no pressure. Just come as you are.”
The cuts are dialed — that’s a given. But that’s not what built the shop.
“It’s the people and the energy. Cuts are always going to be on great, but what keeps people coming back is how they feel when they’re here. It’s a real community spot.”
That same realness is what connected Charly to 805. Not through a pitch or a plan — just through people.
“I got lucky. The brand manager at the time was my client, he connected me with Jackson, and it just went from there. Very grateful for how everything worked out.”
It’s the kind of story that fits — built on relationships, shared values, and letting things grow naturally.
And for Charly & Trevor, this is just the beginning.
“The goal is to expand — more True Love shops up and down the West Coast. We built something real here and we want to bring that same energy to more cities. We’re just getting started.”
No rush. No shortcuts. Just keeping the same energy and taking it further.
Built real. Meant to last.
