Some collaborations just make sense. Cold beer. Loud music. A parking lot full of stories waiting to happen.
When it came time to bring the 805 x Vans Warped Tour collection to life, we teamed up with Australian illustrator Marty Schneider. A longtime punk fan whose signature style helped shape the artwork across the limited-edition can and merch collection.
Growing up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Marty didn’t take the traditional path into design. He started in a screen-printing factory before working his way into the art department, then spent time designing graphics at a surfboard factory. Along the way, he discovered that the comics and Mad magazines he’d obsessed over as a kid could become something more than a hobby.
“I didn’t realise till quite late that it was a semi viable option for a job,” Marty says.
When he first heard “805 x Vans Warped Tour,” his mind immediately went somewhere familiar.
“A bunch of beer-drinking punks partying in a beat-up tour van.”
That idea had already found its way onto last year’s collection, so this time the challenge was finding a fresh angle without losing the energy that made it feel authentically Warped.
For Marty, whether he’s creating can art, apparel, or album-worthy graphics, the process is always the same: fill pages with sketches, chase the strongest idea, and build from there. Inspiration came from vintage Warped Tour artwork, decades of punk music, and plenty of skulls, something he’s been drawing for years.
But the goal wasn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake.
“The balance for me is making it look fun but gnarly at the same time,” Marty explains. “If it’s too cheerful it can be boring. If it’s too grim, it can be a turnoff.”
That mindset shaped the entire collection. Once the main character for the can was locked in, everything else, from the apparel to the supporting artwork, followed the same visual world, giving the capsule one unmistakable identity.
And like any good piece of art, there are a few details hiding in plain sight. The street scene on the tee is based on an actual photo of the Long Beach stadium area, while the guitar features a Music Man headstock, a fun departure from Marty’s usual love for Mosrite and SG guitars.
It’s those little details, mixed with Marty’s unmistakable style, that make this collection feel like more than merch. It’s a snapshot of punk culture, surf culture, and cold beer colliding in exactly the way they should.
